Something is happening in America that I hoped I’d never see again. Some Southern politicians and commentators are trying to make a morally right thing look morally wrong.The first time I saw it I was a kid. Men like Govs. George Wallace of Alabama and Lester Maddox of Georgia managed to turn support for civil rights – equal rights, something the Bible would call mere justice – into something shameful, un-American and anathema to biblical Christianity, which – according to the gospel of Jim Crow – demanded segregated schools, segregated housing, unequal pay and denial of the right to vote or even serve on a jury. Any Black person who dared challenge this scatology was subject to threats, intimidation and, in some cases, death. Any white person who dared speak out was labeled a “communist” or “(n-word) lover.”I saw and heard all of this with my own eyes and ears.Today’s America is finally coming to terms with its sin of<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
